It's an old story from 2011, but it has recently been circulating on the internet again. Although it is hard to believe, according to an article in the dailymail.co.uk entitled "The Ultimate Sacrifice," it is true. As many of you know there is a horrific practice in China in which bears are kept in cages so small they can barely move. They are permanently hooked to a machine that continually drains the bile out of their bodies to create what some consider to be a medicine. This unremitting torture can go on for as long as 20 years.

What is so remarkable about the "Ultimate Sacrifice" story is that it is about a mother bear at a bile farm whose baby had been taken from her. When she heard her baby cry out in pain as they began to cut into him, she somehow broke free from her confinement, grabbed her baby, smothered him to death and then killed herself by ramming herself into a wall-thus saving herself and her babe from such a gruesome life.

The suffering human beings cause to animals and themselves in this world is nearly unbearable to think about. Eckhart Tolle says that all life forms feel the pain we inflict on others and ourselves. He says that this pain "weighs on nature." Because of her courage and her love for her baby, this bear said "Enough!-no matter how much power you think you have over me, my love for my baby is greater than all that."

This week let us honor this brave mother by lifting the spirits of all life forms up and out of the energy field of human violence and misery. We are devoted to liberating all beings so that we can all live in peace together. It is up to us to increase the power of love, prayer, and healing thought to the point that it literally cancels out all negative and violent thoughts that currently poison the energy field of earth. That mother bear is with us; all life forms are with us; our community is growing every day. We can do this.
