And Our Prayer for the Week from Judy Carman
THANKSGIVING—DAY OF TRAGEDY, DAY OF JOY. Thanksgiving
carries within it a history of violence and terror both to Native Americans and
to animals. And yet, at its core, there is the human impulse to rejoice and
feel gratitude for the many good things in life. Love sits at the Thanksgiving
table right beside greed, fear, and death. As vegans, every meal we attend at
which animals are consumed brings heartache. Yet somehow Thanksgiving and the
other holidays seem worse. The joyful attitude and the gratitude expressed
around the table covered with the body parts and secretions of animals seems
such a mockery of the lives of these precious beings and their desire to live.
For those of you who will be sharing Thanksgiving with pre-vegans who will be
eating dead animals, know that we are all connected to each other and to the
animals. You are not alone. You are part of a growing community of people who
have come to see the sacredness of all living beings. That is something to be
immensely grateful for. Throughout this week, let us send strength and peace to
those who cannot attend a vegan Thanksgiving, and let us share this prayer
silently, if necessary, or happily out loud if at all possible.
WE JOYFULLY GIVE THANKS FOR THIS
OUR MEAL OF LOVE AND PEACE,
FOR NO ONE’S CHILD LIES ON OUR PLATES;
NONE SUFFERED FOR OUR FEAST.
WE PRAY FOR PEACE ON EARTH FOR ALL
AND GRACE TO DO OUR PART;
TO LOVE AND TO ALL LIFE WE ARE
CONNECTED HEART TO HEART.

May Divine Wisdom, the animals’ grace, and our true hearts guide us
toward ahimsa, peace, liberation, and lovingkindness for all. As always, I send
my thanks to each of you, dear Prayer Circle members, for joining this circle
of compassion and shining the Light of Truth for all to see, so that one day
soon, all beings will live in peace together.
As always, I send my thanks to each of you, dear Prayer Circle members, for
joining this circle of compassion and shining the Light of Truth for all to
see, so that one day soon, all beings will live in peace together. Our prayers
for all animals continue to circle the earth, to uplift humanity’s
consciousness, and to bless the animals themselves. Thank you for joining
people around the world who are praying these weekly prayers as well as the
Noon Prayer.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy Carman, and greetings from Will,
