HARAMBE, A GORILLA IMPRISONED AT THE CININNATI ZOO HAS BEEN
KILLED. Harambe’s name in Swahili ironically means “come
together in unity for a common cause.” As you no doubt have heard, a
small boy fell into the moat in Harambe’s cage due to inadequate fencing.
Harambe dragged the child at one point, but he also stood him up and pulled his
pants up gently. The child was not seriously injured. We will never know what
Harambe wanted to do. And there was no “unity” being demonstrated
when he was killed by zoo employees. Controversy is raging over this heart
breaking event. Harambe died due to human failure on multiple levels. The
inadequate fencing allowed the child access to the moat. The AZA should have
demanded better fencing years ago. The chaos in the watching crowd, the panic
among zoo employees who had to do something, the fact that zoo animals are
emotionally disturbed because of their confinement making them
unpredictable—all these things contributed. But the root cause of this,
like that of all animal suffering, is the human mindset of domination. We are
taught that we are the dominators of all nature and all animals, and therefore
it is ok to imprison animals in zoos; experiment on them; kill them for meat;
steal their milk, eggs, and fur; force them to perform in circuses; and the
list goes on.
THIS WEEK, WITH THE SPIRIT OF HARAMBE, LET US “COME TOGETHER
IN UNITY FOR A COMMON CAUSE.” Our common cause is clear. As
vegans, as activists, as vision holders, our mission is to help bring a new
humanity into being. Let us use Harambe’s tragic death to talk to people
about the barbaric cruelty of zoos. Let us talk and envision and pray for
“Homo Ahimsa” to arise out of the ashes of our violent past.
“Homo Ahimsa” (described in Peace to All Beings), is the True Human
Being, the nonviolent, gentle and compassionate one who is here (as we all are)
to bring more Love to earth. Let us pray and help people understand that
dominating others and nature leads only to violence and misery for us and all
life. This week let us come together in unity with the spirit of Harambe.
Harambe, we are trying so hard to teach people that all zoos should be
abolished. Along with your gorilla family, we mourn your death. We vow to you
that we will continue our prayers and our actions to bring an end to zoos
everywhere and to teach human beings that we are not here to dominate but
rather to live in harmony and peace with all beings. We join with you and the
spirits of all animals who have been immorally and violently used and killed.
We join with you in Unity for The Common Cause of liberating humanity from the
chains of ignorance and liberating all beings from human domination. Harambe,
you have not died in vain. Your story is being told around the world. It is
awakening people. Can you feel it? We are with you. Our common cause binds us
together in love, peace, and gratitude. We see you, we bless you, we love you.
As always, with tears of gratitude, I send my thanks to each of you,
dear Prayer Circle members, for joining this circle of compassion and
shining the Light of Truth for all to see, so that one day soon, all
beings will live in peace together.
May compassion and love reign over all the earth for all beings
everywhere.
Thank you all for your devotion to truth, love, liberation and peace
for all beings.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy Carman, and greetings from
