Greetings of love and gratitude from
Judy Carman
Indigenous Peoples Day is October 12:
What some still celebrate as Columbus Day in the U.S., a growing number
of social justice activists now recognize as Indigenous Peoples
Day. This change, of course, was done in order to acknowledge the
truth. Columbus was not a hero to be honored but an individual
who, among others, was responsible for the disease, kidnappings, rapes,
and genocide of many millions of native people. He and others like him
personified the dominator mindset that has brought violence and tragedy
to indigenous people and animals all over the world. It is that
very mindset that connects all social justice issues, including animal
rights. As we know, much of the violence and murder inflicted on
indigenous people is still justified by the perpetrators by referring
to them as animals. And if they are animals, then it is
acceptable to dominate and exploit them. So when we, as animal
rights activists, question that mindset, we are attempting to overturn
a nearly universally held belief. We are saying—we are all
animals, and it is not ok to exploit, kill, enslave, or imprison
anyone, no matter who they are.
Prayer for the Week—That this week of
social justice for indigenous people will help everyone make the
connection that animal liberation is human liberation. The
same dominator worldview is at the root of violence toward all
beings. We give thanks for these courageous activists who are
working to bring human consciousness to its full flowering into
compassionate love and respect for all people. We give thanks
that they have moved the world so much closer to understanding that
brutal and self-centered domination of others is the wrong path. There
is a strong foundation in place now—let us hold the vision this week of
those words—animal liberation is human liberation—touching every heart,
like butterflies on flowers. And so it
is.
As always, with tears of gratitude, I send my thanks to each of you,
dear Prayer Circle members, for joining this circle of compassion and
shining the Light of Truth for all to see, so that one day soon, all
beings will live in peace together.
May compassion and love reign over all the earth for all beings
everywhere.
Thank you all for your devotion to truth, love, liberation and peace
for all beings.
With Love, peace, and gratitude from Judy Carman, and greetings from
